ABOUT SILVI GLATTAUER

Silvi Glattauer
A practicing photomedia artist from Melbourne, Australia and a founding member of the Baldessin Press Printmaking Studio, Silvi is recognised as an authority on the Photogravure process as well as working with a range of other photographic processes.
The central themes in Silvi’s work relate to nature, unique forms and precious beauty. There is a connecting thread about materiality, about object, and about preciousness. Her images are about beauty as felt by the sense of sight and touch, evident is her fascination with patterns, sculptural structures, textures and forms in nature. Silvi’s approach is to collect, to archive, to classify and to record. Her natural objects represent narratives and archives and evolve to become storyboards of time and places.
After graduating from RMIT university with high class honours, Silvi has continued to developed her art practice and has exhibited throughout Australia and abroad, most recently at the Museum of Victoria. Major achievements include winning the prestigious Nillumbik Prize, finalist in the 2006 & 2015 Bowness Prize, selected artist in residence for Inkmasters, Cairns, and commissioned by state government to create a documentary series for bushfire recovery celebrations in 2014.
Silvi’s work is held in many private as well as public collections, including the Albury and Geelong Regional Galleries, Melbourne Museum, Monash Gallery of Art and Nillumbik Shire council.

Traveling with Silvi we will experience the wonderful world of the indigenous Amazigh (Berber) people. Time is given to taking photographs en route to explore the wealth and beauty of the Moroccan landscape and culture, interspersed with lively discussion on the topics of conceptual image-making and storytelling.
Accommodation is provided in the most comfortable traditional guesthouses, and we enjoy the extraordinary delights of Amazigh food and hospitality including traditional music performance. The warmth and good humour of the people is immense and the insights into the Islamic world and Amazigh spirituality and contemporary life fascinating.
