ACT is pleased to have been chosen by ICAN – International Ceramic Artists Network – to deliver their  ‘Splendors of Morocco’ Pottery Tours where we will take a journey to discover the world of pottery, ceramics and zellij (traditional mosaic) in Morocco.

This 14 day tour will traverse a large part of Morocco from the ancient imperial city of Marrakech before crossing the High Atlas Mountains to the Sahara in the South and then North to Fes.

Visiting museum collections, the busy souks (markets) and traditional and contemporary artisans working in clay, we will experience the wonderful world of Morocco and the indigenous Amazigh (Berber) people.

Primarily a cultural tour with a focus on exploring pottery and ceramics, we will gather ideas and inspiration for future development, visiting renowned regions known for their unique traditional styles of pottery such as Safi and the Rif mountains.  A highlight of the tour will be participating in a 2 day workshop hand building our own piece with local clay, to be fired in a traditional wood fired kiln with local artisans in the Skoura Oasis.

Accommodation is provided in comfortable traditional guesthouses, and includes an overnight desert camp in the Sahara while we wait for our pots to dry! We enjoy the extraordinary delights of Amazigh food and hospitality including traditional music performance. The warmth and good humour of the people is immense and the insights into the Islamic world and Amazigh spirituality and contemporary life fascinating.

Traveling with a small group of like-minded people and an experienced team of co-hosts the program offers an innovative and creative way to explore a new place that is stimulating, supportive and safe.
